The Bowden cable — a steel wire inside a coiled steel housing — was built for bicycle brakes by Ernest Monnington Bowden in 1896. Ours come from bicycle shops: sorted, cleaned, cut to length and laser-engraved.
An ordinary hinge holds a flat temple. This line needed one that holds a cable, so Vinylize developed its own: firm where it meets the front, flexible along its length. The construction is the line’s own.
Mercury, Deacon and May carry Vinylize’s record fronts, thick and unmistakable. Aimo, Bottecchia and Frantz have Italian acetate fronts — blue marble, dark green or havana — in small, medium and large.
The nylon sheath is hypoallergenic, the helical core gives the temple its weight and its give. The opening angle adjusts and the length shortens by up to 25 mm, so we set the frame on your head before you leave.
