Optometrist at the Zeiss unit

At Tipton, an eye exam is a full assessment of how your eyes actually work: refraction, retinal imaging, corneal mapping and 3D centration, run on our own Zeiss equipment by an in-house optometrist. It's the reason our glasses fit the way they do — and, as preventive healthcare, it's often the first place a patient learns their eyes are flagging diabetes, high blood pressure or early glaucoma. Available every week, in English and Hungarian, at no language surcharge.

Our technology

The most measured eyes in Budapest

Most opticians read your eyes once, with a chart and a hunch. We map them. A full Zeiss diagnostic suite measures your refraction, retina, cornea and centration.

Visuphor 500

The digital refraction unit that measures your exact prescription — precise and comfortable, without the guesswork of flipped lenses.

Zeiss Visuscreen 500

Zeiss SL 115 Classic

SL 115 Classic

A high-contrast slit lamp for a close, detailed look at the front of the eye, from broad overview down to the finest structures.

Good to know

Before you book

How much does an eye exam cost in Budapest?+
Our exams range from 20,000 Ft for the Basic (30 minutes) to 45,000 Ft for the Premium (60 minutes), with the Deluxe at 30,000 Ft. Many Budapest chains offer a quick sight test free with a purchase — ours is a full diagnostic assessment on Zeiss equipment, with retinal imaging and a proper consultation, so it stands on its own whether or not you buy glasses with us.
How often should I have an eye exam?+
As a general guide, every one to two years is enough for most adults. Book annually if you're over 60, wear a strong prescription, or live with diabetes or high blood pressure — these often show their first signs at the back of the eye, which is exactly what our retinal imaging is built to catch. If your vision changes suddenly, come in sooner.
Can I have my eye exam in English?+
Yes. Our optometrists run the full exam in English or Hungarian, and there's no surcharge for English — the price is the same in either language. Your booking confirmation, the consultation itself and your written prescription all come in the language you choose, which is why many of Budapest's international residents come to us.
Can an eye exam detect health problems?+
Often, yes. The retina is the one place in the body where blood vessels and nerves can be seen directly, so our Deluxe and Premium exams — which include Zeiss retinal imaging — can pick up early signs of diabetes, high blood pressure, glaucoma and macular degeneration, frequently before you notice any symptom. Anything of concern, we explain on the spot and advise where to follow up.
What makes Zeiss lenses different?+
Zeiss lenses are ground to nanometre precision and shaped to the wavefront data measured during your exam, so they're cut for your eyes specifically rather than to a standard average. In practice that means sharper vision edge to edge, less glare at night and reduced strain on screens — finished with a DuraVision coating up to three times more scratch-resistant than standard anti-reflective lenses. Because we run the Zeiss diagnostics in-house, your exam data flows straight into the lens.
How should I prepare, and what should I bring?+
Bring your current glasses (and their prescription if you have it), and jot down any symptoms — dry eye, headaches, screen strain — you'd like us to look into. If you wear contact lenses, please leave them out before your appointment and bring your glasses instead: lenses temporarily reshape the cornea and can skew the measurements. Tell us you're a contact-lens wearer when you book and we'll let you know how long beforehand to take them out.
Can I bring my children or dog?+
Absolutely — we're child and dog friendly, with a box of legos to keep little ones busy while you test and choose frames. We also carry out children's eye exams, so you can book the whole family in on the same visit.
